Handmade from recycled cement, sand, granite and marble dust from the stone industry, the Hydraulic Tray results from the traditional application for tile making.

For easy cleaning and maintenance, every tray is coated with varnish that seals the surface, similar to the one used for hydraulic cement floors.

STORY

The process for making traditional encaustic cement tiles relies on highly skilled labour, rather than technology investment. These trays are handmade one by one, following a traditional recipe that gives the best results, in terms of toughness, durability, detail, and colour uniformity. These tiles show two layers with distinctive characteristics: the top one is done with the finest white cement, mixed with marble and granite dust, and colour, giving a very fine and smooth surface. The backing layer is a dry mix of sand and cement that supports the top layer. Our green designer wanted these trays to show these layers, as they tell how it is made.

Marble and granite recycled from the natural stone industry, mainly saw dust waste. The finest aggregates combined with a smooth mould give the best surface. Top quality pigments are also important. The process gives us the chance to experiment with different shapes by simply making moulds. Each shape can also show a variety of coloured patterns, possibilities are endless.
